Ranch-Brewed Beers at the Q & Brew | Canton, TX
There’s more to the Q & Brew restaurant than smokin’ Southern BBQ! Yes, we’re talking about the “brew” part of Silver Spur’s newest resort addition. You may have seen restaurant updates on Facebook recently, or maybe you joined the fun at our National Beer Day Celebration. However, there haven’t been many recent updates about the brewery, so let’s catch you up!
The Making of a Brewery
Our brew master, Garrett, is busy crafting new recipes that will soon be ready to sample. We can’t give away too much, but if you loved the Orange Creamsicle, our Peach Wheat will be a new fan favorite, perfect for Texas summer days. Our new custom equipment from Colorado Brewing Systems will be delivered in a couple weeks and we’ll be ready to scale up our brewing to meet the demands of our Q & Brew customers or locals stopping by to fill their growlers for the weekend.
Colorado Brewing Systems
The first week of June, Garrett met with Adam at Colorado Brewing Systems to check on the progress and tour the facility manufacturing our equipment.
“It was great to meet Adam and the rest of the crew at Colorado Brewing Systems. They have a great facility and it was exciting to see the manufacturing process”, says Garrett.
Freedom’s Edge Brewery Co
The next day, Garrett traveled to Wyoming to visit Freedom’s Edge Brewing Co to spend a day brewing and training on the same system that is under production for the Q & Brew. But first, ordering an 8-beer flight for “research purposes” was top priority!
Garrett notes, “The whole staff at Freedom’s Edge was amazing. They had a great taproom with an awesome lineup of rotating beers; their High Noon Chile Ale was my favorite. The brewmaster, Joel, was fun and very informative about the system. I had a great experience.”
Putting Skills to the Test
Garrett had the chance to put his skills to the test with the Freedom’s Edge brewmaster, and helped brew a vanilla rye porter on a Colorado Brewing Systems brew house, which is similar to what will be at the Q & Brew.
Here’s a snapshot of the brewing process for those interested in behind-the-scenes. The first two photos show the mashing in process of a vanilla rye porter. “Mashing in” is converting grain into fermentable sugars called wort. The last photo shows the spent grain, and wort boiling in the kettle prior to transferring into the fermentor.
The Q & Brew at Silver Spur Resort
Our brewmaster will keep it fresh and different and we are confident our brew house will keep you coming back. Each day, Canton locals ask when the Q & Brew is opening, and we are happy that you share our excitement! We’ll announce our opening date on Silver Spur’s Facebook page very soon, but our newsletter subscribers will be the first to know! If you are a current subscriber, or entered our raffle at Silver Spur’s National Beer Day celebration, you’re in! If not, subscribe here to get on the list!
We’ll meet you at the Q & Brew!
