Everything You Need to Know About Attending First Responders Day
First Responders Day: An Annual Celebration in Canton, Texas
Thank you to everyone for your excitement and support for First Responder’s Day, an annual event hosted by the Silver Spur Resort! This day is dedicated to the celebration of, and support for, Van Zandt County First Responders. It also serves as a fundraiser for the Van Zandt First Responders Fund, a nonprofit created by the Silver Spur Resort in 2018, to help fund the unexpected needs of the first responder’s community. The board members of the First Responders Fund, in coordination with our local law enforcement and support from our community, work hard to organize this event each year. We have a FULL day of family fun planned…here is everything you need to know:
Location and Parking
First Responders Day will be held at Silver Spur Resort at 13785 State Hwy 19 in Canton, just 1/2 mile north of I-20. Find directions here. The 2021 event is Saturday, May 8th from 10am-2pm. It is FREE and open to the public, ALL are welcome and encouraged to come.
There is plenty of parking in the lot located directly behind The Barn. (Once you drive into the Resort, you will see The Barn to your left) Please drive through the Resort with caution, as it will be crowded 😊
Activities and Demonstrations
This is a very fun and family-friendly event. We’ll have a bounce house for the kids, free hot dogs & drinks. Some activities take place inside our air-conditioned Barn, while the majority will be outdoors. Some demonstrations the kids many enjoy include:
- Flight for Life landing at the Resort
- Police K-9s & Search and Rescue dogs
- Dunk a First Responder in our dunk tank
- Meet local First Responders & explore emergency vehicles
- Child fingerprinting and more!
Opportunities to Donate
This event is not only a blast for families in our local community, but it also serves as an opportunity to raise money for our local First Responders 🚒🚔 (Learn more about the Van Zandt First Responders Fund here)
Here are some ways to donate to our local heroes during the event:
🚨We’ll have a friendly competition between Police & Fire to see which department can raise the most money! Loser has to KISS A PIG 🐷 Come support your favorite organization!
🚨Donate to DUNK a First Responder in our dunk tank!
🚨Keep cool! SNOWIE will be serving up treats to beat the heat! A portion of their sales will be donated to the First Responders Fund!
🚨Book your Escape Room experience for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and we will donate $5 per ticket sold to the First Responders Fund! Book a private game, and we’ll donate $30!
🚨Carter BloodCare will also be onsite! Who will win the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive?! We will have a sign-in sheet for blood donors to vote for the Police Dept, Fire Dept, or EMS. Every donor will receive a t-shirt as a thank you!
First Responders Raffle
ALL First Responders in attendance will receive a raffle ticket upon arrival, so make sure to check in! Many local businesses have donated prizes as a way to say THANK YOU for your service. We will raffle off prizes throughout the day!
Food & Entertainment
After a full day of family fun, you might be too tired to even think about what to do for dinner. You’re in luck because our Q & Brew restaurant will be open during normal business hours and ready to serve you! Stay to enjoy our Escape Room, Human Foosball, and yard games, then head on over to the Q & Brew for your favorite menu item and a cold beer!
Following the 2021 First Responders Day, the Republican Club of Van Zandt County will host a Sheriff’s Benefit Auction at 5:00pm inside The Barn. The goal of this auction is to raise money to provide the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s office with the equipment, supplies, and tools they need to be the most effective and efficient at their jobs…SERVING AND PROTECTING US!
